Belinda's Bra

(Below) Lyrics/artwork from an punk poetry 'zine I did entitled "The Eyeing of my Scars":

"Belinda's Bra" was a tune Regi Mentle & I wrote ages ago that was never actually recorded. The song came about because Regi saw on tv that Madame Carlisle had donated her black leather bra to Frederick's of Hollywood Museum in LA. As we wanted to form a band at the time, his immediate thought was to steal it and wear it onstage as an irreverent, semi-middle finger to her. That story inspired us to write a song about it - we cowrote the lyrics, I put some chords to it, and Regi did the artwork! (Note: Blades/Screaming/Overrun are very early Go Go's songs). ~Eden Felt

Trivia #1 : Trivia #1 : Regi Mentle used to be Darby Crash's flatmate/friend and the character portrayed in the Germs song "Richie Dagger's Crime" was inspired by him. On Pat Smear's first solo album from 1987 ("Ruthensmear" SST Records), a picture of Regi is on the back of the album cover..

Trivia #2: The original title of "Belinda's Bra" was actually gonna be "Rock 'n Roll Prostitute"...which do you think is better??

About Marks In Time

This Franco-American, cyber-zine came about as a natural progression of two people meeting and discovering that their musical tastes - to a very large extent - reflected one another's. Interestingly, although our coming of age eras spanned oceans, continents, cultures and decades, musically speaking, we both understood the same language.

This project itself is in large part an outgrowth of a zine Eden Felt created with Iraya Robles in 1992 entitled "Marks in Time: The Very Early Go Go's (1978-1980)." As only 500 copies of the original 98 page zine were ever printed, it sold out immediately and was never re-released. Later, it came to Eden's attention that a handful of ordered zines were never properly sent out and received, which further motivated him to figure out a way to re-release the zine in some format for free, with additional rare audio and visual materials offered (some which have never been released to the public prior). The plan now is to release the zine in 10 page installments with relevant music uploaded for each "chapter." We further plan to offer additional related material - images, articles, art, interviews, etc. - not originally offered in the zine to supplement and update the topic.

To this day, the early punk roots of the Go Go's are still little-known or understood, so with the release of this site we hope to offer additional insight into this specific era of the early LA punk underground as relates to the Go Go's specifically, but also including related seminal bands from that scene such as X, The Germs, The Bags, The Weirdos, Fear, The Alley Cats, Castration Squad, Wall of Voodoo, Nervous Gender, The Screamers, The Zeros, The Extremes and many, many others.

Lastly, we would like to salute Paul Barber from England, co-creator of "Beatnik Beat," for not only encouraging us early on and offering insightful feedback and support, but also doing a brilliant job scanning the MIT document itself. Remarkably, the quality of the images look exactly as they did the day it was first hand-painted and collated on Iraya's living room floor, so thanks tons for helping us mate & cheers to you!
